A 5-4 penalty kick shoot out was the only thing standing in the way of a championship at the Cats and Hounds Tournament on Saturday for Dos Pueblos. The Chargers finished runner-up to Monrovia after a scoreless draw in regulation.
The match goes into the books as a tie for the 5-0-1 Chargers, who have given up only two goals in six games. It was a better ending for Dos Pueblos in Saturday’s earlier game, a dramatic 2-1 victory over Madera South. Manny Nwosu scored in the final minute off an assist from Jessie Jimenez to send the Chargers into the Championship match.
Nwosu had five goals and one assist in the tournament. Jessie Jimenez blasted in the Chargers’ first goal of the day when he trapped a ball with his chest and volleyed a shot into the net for an emotional boost.
Monrovia reached a CIF championship match last season and was the first team to hold the Chargers scoreless this season. .
