BSoc: Perez keeps scoring for Royals

San Marcos’ boys soccer team traveled to Fresno this weekend for the Harold Young Tournament at Buchanan High School. The Royals went 1-1-1 against Northern California opponents.

Oscar Perez scored three goals in two games, including two in a 4-1 victory over Stratmore. Perez’s third goal came in the second game when the Royals came from behind to draw Farmersville. San Marcos then lost in a shootout. Perez has scored in three of San Marcos’ first four games.

In their final matchup of the tournament, the Royals took a 1-0 lead on Delano until two quick goals in the second half changed the course of the game. Delano held on for the 2-1 decision.

San Marcos head coach Daniel Torres felt the team played well at times but that each of the losses could have been wins.

“Overall it was a good experience,” Torres said. “We have a young team with inexperience and we showed that today. We couldn’t finishes our chances today in the first half and we came out somewhat flat in the second half and (Delano) took advantage of that.”

Isaac Oh was San Marcos’ goal scorer against Delano. Andy Mandrell and Jonas Romero found the scoring column on Friday in the tournament opener.
