Starting two freshmen and four sophomores, Carpinteria’s boys soccer team made its season debut on Friday in a 3-2 loss to Oxnard.
The Warriors struck first, gaining a 1-0 advantage when Bryan Taira scored in the 30th minute off an assist by Luis Garcia.
But Oxnard came out in the second half with extra vigor and knocked in two goals in quick succession to take a 2-1 lead. A third unanswered goal came in the 75th minute.
Carpinteria found its second goal in the 79th minute when Garcia headed in a pass from freshman Eddie Mendoza.
“We have a challenging preseason schedule ahead of us and tonight was a great experience for us moving forward and building trust and chemistry that will be essential in the coming weeks,” explained Warriors head coach Leo Quintero.
“Despite the loss we played well for our age and we embrace the adversity and challenge that comes with having a young team.”
