Laguna Blanca gave up a second-half lead on Tuesday and fell to Thacher 3-2 in a non-league game.
The Toads scored first but the Owls drew even in the 33rd minute on a corner kick taken by Luke Smilie that was finished by Ethan Tyng. The same duo gave Laguna Blanca a 2-1 advantage soon after halftime. Tyng’s volley off Smilie’s corner hit the post and bounced off the keeper and into the goal.
Thacher claimed victory by producing two quick goals in the final stretch of the match.
“I think we played great for 70 minutes but a high school game is 80 minutes,” reported first-year Laguna Blanca coach Goffin Byoko. “We have to play from the first to the last whistle. We showed character today and I am looking forward to the season with this group of guys.”
