Nico Mackie and the Dos Pueblos defense kept Newbury Park off the scoreboard on Tuesday, leading the Chargers to a 1-0 non-league win.
Manny Nwosu scored Dos Pueblos’ goal in the 38th minute after controlling a pass from Jessie Jimenez. Nwosu used his head to bring the ball to his feet before taking a shot.
Mackie and the defense protected the lead in the second half as Newbury Park upped the pressure. Mackie, a sophomore, was making his first start in O’Leary Stadium.
Dos Pueblos, which is ranked No. 8 in the latest CIF Division 1 rankings, improves to 6-0-1 on the season. It’s DP’s fifth shutout in seven games.
