Santa Barbara High split its two games at the Cats and Hounds Tournament on Friday, beating Righetti 3-0 before a 4-1 setback to Monrovia in the quarterfinals.
Alejandro Munoz-Briones netted two goals in the first game and added an assist on the third goal by Abraham Sierra. It was the Dons’ second shutout of the season after a 1-0 victory on Tuesday in SB’s opener.
But Monrovia, the CIF Division-6 runner up last year, put the Dons on the defense from the start thanks to an early penalty kick. Jorge Garcia Torres’ goal put Santa Barbara on the scoreboard.
The Dons (2-1) return to tournament action on Saturday.
