Cate picked up its first win on Friday night by defeating Villanova 65-49 at the Ojai Invitational.
The Rams owned the third quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 23-8, to make the difference in the game.
Marko Pliso was Cate’s top scorer, collecting 26 points for his third-straight 20-point game to start the season. Making an impact on the defensive end of the court were juniors Pierce Lundt and Dylan Ell.
“We executed tonight and were able to hit big shots in the 3rd quarter,” said Rams head coach Andy Gil. “At half we talked about getting stops and blowing the game open, and that is what we did. We were able to get them to turn the ball over with our press and allowed us to get easy baskets.”
The Rams (1-2) meet Thacher on Saturday to decide the tournament’s Consolation Championship.
