Santa Barbara High basketball standouts Amber Melgoza and Bolden Brace were honored Monday as the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athletes of the Week.
Melgoza led the Dons girls team to three straight wins and the championship at Lompoc’s Bryan Ayer Classic. The University of Washington-bound Melgoza scored 28 points in the first two games and had 27 with eight steals in the championship game.
Brace earned MVP honors after leading the Santa Barbara boys to the championship at the Simi Valley Tournament. It was the Dons’ first title at Simi Valley in 23 years. In the title game, the Northeastern University-bound Brace finished a couple of assists shy of a triple double. He scored 19 points. He had 29 and 15 points in earlier tournament games.
The honorable mention choices for the males included Scott Everman (San Marcos basketball), Bryan Sheets (Providence basketball), Ryan Fidel (Dos Pueblos wrestling) and Manny Nwosu (Dos Pueblos soccer).
The female athletes earning honorable mention were Camila Casanueva (Dos Pueblos basketball), Jessie Brummett (Santa Barbara water polo), Paige Hauschild (San Marcos water polo), Abbi Hill (Dos Pueblos water polo) and Phoebe Madsen (Laguna Blanca volleyball).
