Sophomores Adam Grimmitt and Bradley Apodaca placed 35th and 37th, respectively, on Friday in the Southern Cal Regional men’s cross country meet at Mission Bay Park in San Diego. They had nearly identical times – Grimmitt covering the 4-mile course in 21:45.09 and Apodaca right next to him at 21:45.57.
The Vaqueros finished 13th and qualified for the State meet for the fifth straight year.
“Our goal was to score 350 because we thought that would get us to state,” said SBCC coach Scott Fickerson. “It turns out 353 was good enough.”
Gustavo Bello was 71st for the Vaqueros in 22:22 and Matt Wells was 85th in 22:30. Michael Teran of San Bernardino Valley was the individual champ in 20:31.
Mt. San Antonio took the team title with 82 points, beating Riverside (100) and San Bernardino (124).
The Vaqueros will compete in the State Championships on Saturday, Nov. 21 at Woodward Park in Fresno.
