Shiloe Parsons showed excellent distribution skills with 38 assists on Friday night, leading No. 2-ranked SBCC to a 3-1 women’s volleyball victory at No. 23 Ventura. The Vaqueros overcame a first-set loss to win 16-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-19.
The Vaqueros won their third straight match and 13th in 14 tries to improve to 22-3 overall and 10-1 in the WSC North. They’re tied for first with No. 1 L.A. Pierce with one match remaining.
The 22 wins are the most in Ed Gover’s 25-year coaching tenure at SBCC. He had won 21 games three times. The all-time record for single-season wins was set in 1977 when they played many more matches. That team went 30-4 and finished third in the state under coach Pat Moorhouse.
Shannon Friend led the Vaqueros with 14 kills and a .438 percentage while Katelynn Womack had 13 kills and 11 digs. Middle hitters Isabella Thompson and Hannah Cantrell had eight and seven kills, with Cantrell hitting .500. Thompson and Cantrell had six blocks apiece.
Tristen Thompson had 20 digs and Raleigh McKinney 11.
“It was a great setting night for Shiloe, who used a multitude of hitters,” said Gover. “It was a total team effort.”
The Vaqueros will host L.A. Mission on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the last match of the regular season.
