San Bernardino Valley scored 86 seconds into Saturday’s Southern Cal Regional women’s soccer opener and went on to beat SBCC 2-0.
The fifth-seeded Wolverines improved to 16-2-3 overall and 10-0 at home. The No. 12 Vaqueros end their year at 9-6-5.
Baylee Williams scored in the 2nd minute and Leandra Garlinger lofted a long shot over goalie Alex Camarillo’s head with 20 seconds to go in the first half. It was the 22nd goal of the year for Garlinger.
The Wolverines outshot the Vaqueros 25-13, including 11-7 in shots on goal. Camarillo made nine saves.
“We played well after giving up that early goal and almost tied it in the 27th minute when a shot by Kathryn Sullivan barely went over the bar,” said coach John Sisterson. “We worked hard to try and get back in it in the second half but it wasn’t meant to be.
“It’s disappointing because I felt like we were the better team.”
