Destinee King scored 13 of her season-high 22 points in a big first quarter on Friday afternoon and SBCC used hot shooting to rout Glendale 85-67 in the consolation semifinals of Glendale’s Lady Vaquero Shootout.
The Vaqueros (2-4) shot 72.2 percent in the opening quarter of the women’s basketball game and stormed out to a 31-16 lead. Santa Barbara jumped ahead 8-2, 14-4 and 22-8 en route to a season-high 31 points in the first 10 minutes.
SBCC led 48-25 at halftime and stretched it to 33 (62-29) with 7:37 to go in the third period. Santa Barbara hit 34-of-55 from the field (61.8 percent) and held Glendale (1-4) to 31.3 percent.
King hit 8-of-11 from the field and also led the team in rebounds (9) and assists (6). Kesler Johnson added 13 points and three steals, Jeanie Pattison had 11 points and Hannah Rogers tossed in 10 points on 5-6 shooting with five rebounds. Jocelin Petatan contributed nine points and five boards for SBCC, which won the rebound battle 51-37.
“We played very well with four players in double figures and 11 of 17 scoring,” said coach Sandrine Krul. “It was a very good team win.”
SBCC will take on Antelope Valley (1-3) in the consolation final on Saturday at noon.
