Bryan Taira was named the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Scholar-Athlete of the Year from Carpinteria High School on Monday.
Taira plays tennis and soccer for the Warriors in addition to his host of other academic and leadership activities.
The senior holds a GPA of 4.28 with a course load including multiple AP classes. He’s the vice president of the school his senior year and is a volunteer coach for Special Olympics. He enjoys musical theatre, film production and photography.
He was accompanied by his parents, Julie and Terry, and aunt Kim Ishida.
“He will be the captain of our team this year and I’ve never named a captain this early,” said Carpinteria varsity tennis coach Charles Bryant in a statement read by award presenter Marc Gamberdella.
