Santa Barbara Water Polo Club’s 14U Girls team won the 2015 TYR Cup, USA Water Polo’s “Fall Classic,” held in Lewisville, Texas over the weekend. This is only the second TYR Cup Championship in the distinguished history of Santa Barbara Water Polo Club.
Led by Cathy Neushul, Santa Barbara defeated Island Water Polo of Maui, Diablo, Socal Gold, and 680 Drivers, before rounding with Rose Bowl Water Polo Club in the semi-final match Sunday morning. Santa Barbara’s resounding 18-6 victory avenged a zone qualification loss to Rose Bowl and propelled the 14’s into the championship game with perennial power Socal Black.
Santa Barbara jumped out to a 4-0 lead but Socal battled back, drawing within one goal I the fourth quarter before Santa Barbara held on for a 10-9 victory and the 2016 TYR Cup Championship. Santa Barbara’s 14U TYR Cup Champions include Anna Cable (Goal), Shannon Connelly, Angie Drake, Abigail Hendrix, Claire Krone, Megan Musick, Hannah Meyer, Cassidy Miller, and Jewel Roemer. Sabine Shackelford received the 2015 Maureen O’Toole Sportsmanship Award.
