San Marcos advanced to the quarterfinals of the CIF Division 1A volleyball playoffs with a sweep at Yucaipa in a second-round match on Thursday night.
The scores were 25-23, 25-21, 25-21.
UCSB signee Chloe Allen pounded 17 kills, picked up 12 digs and served an ace to pace the Royals. Kamille Williams added eight kills in the middle and Jenna MacFarlane picked up five. Gabi Peoples dished out 33 assists and scooped up 14 digs and Cassidy Drury-Pullen had 13 digs.
Coach Erica Downing lauded the play of Peoples.
“Gabi has done a fabulous job of running an offense that makes us successful,” she said. “Our passing started off slow and she was able to set balls that got our hitters into a rhythm. She is our vocal leader on the court. She works day after day to get better as a volleyball player.”
The Royals lost a coin-flip and will play at No. 3 seed Trabuco Hills on Saturday
