Cate’s quest for back-to-back CIF titles ended on Tuesday in the Division 4A semifinals. The Rams were defeated by Summit 27-25, 25-23, 16-25, 25-18.
Summit captured the crucial first and second sets by the slimmest of margins.
“Not often you lose hitting a nice .220 but it was unforced errors that got us in games 1 and 2,” reported Rams head coach Greg Novak.
Better serving led to a complete turn around in Game 3 but the home team regrouped and closed out the match in Game 4.
Peyton Shelburne collected a team-high 21 kills and Delaney Mayfield tallied 14.
