Laguna Blanca’s middle attack powered the top-seeded Owls to a sweep over Fontana-Summit in a first-round game of the CIF Division 4 State Regional Tournament on Tuesday night at Merovick Gym.
Middles Dani Abrams and Laurel Kujan combined for 15 kills in a 25-15, 25-23, 25-10 victory.
The win sets up a rematch with Alta Loma in the regional semifinals on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Dos Pueblos High. The Owls beat the Braves in five sets in the CIF-SS Division 4AA championship match last Saturday at Cerritos College. Fourth-seeded Alta Loma advanced with a 3-1 win over Sierra Tollhouse.
Abrams posted a team-high 10 kills to lead the attack. Phoebe Madsen added 8 kills and Maddy Nicolson contributed 7.
The Owls frustrated Summit with their defense. Kendall White and Sophia Fay each had 13 digs and Caylin Zimmerman scooped up 12. Kelly Bickett served three aces.
