Peyton Shelburne put away 21 kills and Hailey Panzer recorded 14, pacing the Cate girls volleyball team to a sweep over San Gabriel Mission in the second round of the CIF 4A playoffs on Thursday. The scores 25-17, 25-8, 25-9.
The win sets up a rematch with Duarte in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Cate. The Rams beat Duarte in last year’s 4A final.
“Tonight was the first playoff game for several of the Cate players,” Rams coach Greg Novak said. “They all played with calm steadiness that was truly amazing to watch. Hailey Panzer had some commanding kills on the outside and passed a 2.62. Adding to the passing was Hannah Bowlin who passed a 2.38. Jillian Rogers put several balls away on the right and left side.”
