Carolin Chang carded a 1-over 73 on Sunday, leading SBCC to second place after the first round of the Southern Cal Regional women’s golf tournament at Alisal River GC in Solvang.
Vanesa Villa shot 80 and Isabella Doub 82 for the WSC champion Vaqueros. Citrus leads the seven-team field at 318, followed by SBCC (322) and Mt. San Antonio (335). The top two teams after Monday’s final round will advance to the State Championships on Nov. 15-16 at Morro Bay GC.
Lexandra So of Citrus was the medalist at 72. Chang and Jamie Lopez of Citrus are tied for second at 73.
“It was a gorgeous day until the last hour when it got a little windy,” said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. “Our nerves were a little frayed today. We have primarily freshmen and I think we felt it at the start.
“I’m confident we can play better tomorrow.”
The final round will start with a shotgun start on Monday at 9 a.m.
