UC Santa Barbara sophomore Amanda Ball has been named Big West Offensive Player of the Week after scoring a goal in each of the Gauchos’ two games over the weekend, the league announced Monday.
Ball, who missed eight games in the middle of the season with a foot injury, has started to return to form in the last several. She scored her third goal of the year in the 78th minute of UCSB’s win at Cal State Fulleron on Oct. 29. The win guaranteed the Gauchos a share of the Big West regular season title and one of the top seeds in the league tournament.
On Sunday, in a 4-3 overtime loss at Cal State Northridge, Ball scored a game-tying goal in the 68th minute to help UCSB overcome a 3-0 deficit and force an overtime.
Ball finished the regular season with four goals and three assists in her 11 matches.
The No. 2 seeded Gauchos will play third-seeded Cal State Fullerton in the first round of the Big West Tournament on Thursday, Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m. The UCSB-CSUF game will be preceded by a 5:00 p.m. match-up between No. 1 seeded Long Beach State and No. 4 seeded UC Riverside. All games will be played at Fullerton’s Titan Stadium.
