Sophomore co-captains Bradley Apodaca and Adam Grimmitt came up big in the WSC Championships on Friday, placing eighth and 10th, respectively, as SBCC took fifth to qualify for the Southern Cal Championships.
The Vaqueros will be making their fifth straight trip to the So Cal meet on Friday, Nov. 6 at Mission Bay in San Diego.
Apodaca, from Santa Barbara High, covered the 4-mile course at Legg Lake in Whittier Narrows Regional Park in 20:16. Grimmit, from Rocklin, Calif., was six seconds behind in 20:22. They both earned first-team All-WSC honors for finishing in the top 10.
Alex Ramirez, the Vaqueros’ top finisher in three races this year, ran with an injury and placed 38th in 21:10. Cesar Rodriguez (64th) and Jacob Ogawa (67th) rounded out the top five.
SBCC will run in the Southern Cal Championships on Friday, Nov. 6 at Mission Bay in San Diego. The Vaqueros have advanced to the State Meet the last four years and placed seventh last year for one of the highest finishes in school history.
