Cate had plenty of highlights to speak of at Thursday’s TVCA Cross Country Meet at Elkins Ranch Golf Club in Fillmore, headlined by the girls team beating Thacher for the first time in five years and a third-place finish from the boys team.
Sophomore Kyril Van Schendel finished a fast fifth place in 15:58, “a good time on the challenging Elkins Ranch layout” according to Cate head coach Karl Weis. Senior co-captains Rei Imada and Jack Pruitt were next for the Rams in 16th and 17th place.
Senior Charlotte Monke and sophomore Isabela Montes de Oca led the girls team, which is ranked No. 4 in CIF-ss Division 5. Monke was 10th overall in a time of 20:33 while Montes de Oca came in 16th in 21:39. Weis credited senior co-caption Jessica Liou for having “one of her best races ever” and making an strong impact on besting the Toads.
The girls team was fourth behind Foothill Tech, Fillmore and Malibu.
Thursday’s league meet was the second of the season. The third and final TVCA race is Thursday, November 5. Cate runs again at the Mt. SAC Invitational next Friday.
