SBCC enjoyed a big advantage in time of possession on Tuesday but couldn’t find the net in a 0-0 women’s soccer tie at Oxnard.
It was the WSC North opener for the Vaqueros (5-2-2, 0-0-1), who are ranked No. 8 in the nation by the NSCAA. SBCC has won two of the last four conference titles and went unbeaten (9-0-3) for the first time in the WSC last year.
“We competed well and went straight at them in the first 25 minutes,” said coach John Sisterson. “We could have been up 2-0. It was just one of those games where we created lots of opportunities but just didn’t finish. One of these days, we’re going to bang six or seven in.”
Oxnard won the shot battle 15-12 but the Vaqueros had seven shots on-goal and the home team had three. SBCC also had a big advantage in corners, 10-4.
Kasey Jensen made her first start in goal and recorded the shutout. It was the fifth clean sheet for the Vaqueros.
Santa Barbara will host L.A. Pierce on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
