The fifth-rank Warriors of Westmont (10-3-2, 5-1-2) dropped a 1-0 Golden State Athletic Conference women’s soccer game to William Jessup in overtime on Saturday.
“It didn’t feel good, but it’s a game you learn from,” said head coach Chantel Cappuccilli. “We created a significant amount of opportunities – a fair amount to be able to put the game away, but we didn’t finish.”
The Warriors had a total of nine shots and nine corner kicks, while William Jessup had a total of seven shots and two corner kicks.
“I would say that William Jessup put a good amount of pressure on us and ultimately finished the opportunities they had,” explained Cappuccilli.
William Jessup’s goal came in the 100th minute when Dahlia Rodriguez intercepted a Westmont throw in and played the ball to Amber Deanda near the left side of the 18 yard box. Deanda took a moving touch and cracked a low and driven shot into the bottom right side of the goal to both end the game and earn the Victory.
“This result is unfortunate but we can’t linger on it. We have to move on. We have two important conference games ahead of us that we need to focus on,” concluded Cappuccilli.
The Westmont Warriors will finish out conference play next week and will face Hope International (10-3-2, 4-3) on the road on Wednesday and San Diego Christian (8-5-1, 3-4) at home on Saturday for senior day.
