The UC Santa Barbara women’s soccer team fell to Long Beach State Sunday by a score of 1-0.
The beginning of the first half was controlled by Long Beach State as they were able to set the tempo with their fast-paced game play. However, the Gaucho defense remained solid and were able to stop any threat that came their way. The score remained tied at zero by the end of the half.
The second half rolled around and Long Beach found their chance to strike. Off of a Gaucho turnover, Long Beach State’s Vania Robles lobbed a leading pass over the Gaucho defender, finding teammate Ashley Gonzales wide open for a breakaway in the box. Gonzales was able to put it past Gaucho keeper Jacq Caginia to give the 49ers the lead.
The Gauchos were unable to answer back and took their fourth loss of the season.
Next up for the Gauchos is a home match against rival Cal Poly. The Mustangs are 5-4-5 on the season. They lost their most recent match to Long Beach State by a score of 2-0.
The match against Cal Poly will happen on Thursday, Oct. 15 at 7PM at Harder Stadium.
