Entering her junior season, point guard Onome Jemerigbe was named to the College Sports Madness All-Big West Second Team, it was announced Tuesday.

Jemerigbe – who played her sophomore campaign as UCSB’s starting point guard – finished the 2014-15 season as the Gauchos’ leader in points (8.6 ppg) and assists (4.0 apg). Overall, she tallied 115 helpers, which is the most by any Gaucho since Lauren Pedersen dished out 133 assists in the 2008-09 season.

Last year, the point guard avoided the sophomore slump and earned her first All-Big West Honorable Mention. She was particularly impressive when the conference schedule came around, as she averaged 4.4 assists (fourth in the league) and 1.6 steals (sixth) per game. The point guard opened UCSB’s conference slate on a tear in recording at least five assists through the first seven games (5.6 apg).

The Stockton, Calif. native reached a personal-best nine assists in two games including the team’s season finale at Cal Poly. In that game, Jemerigbe helped guide the Gauchos to their best three-point shooting outing of the year (61.5) and to a season-high 41 points in the first-half.

In the scoring column, she hit a career-high 16 points at Cal State Bakersfield, while also registering five assists in orchestrating the team’s best shooting performance to that point of the season.

This is the first time Jemerigbe has been honored by College Sports Madness. Click here to see the website’s full All-Big West Preseason team.

Jemerigbe and the rest of the Gauchos will make their 2015-16 debut on Sunday, Nov. 8th in an exhibition against Cal State Dominguez Hills.
