Royals’ Ice-in-Paradise opener pushed to Oct. 17

The ice in the new Ice in Paradise skating complex will not be ready for Saturday’s home opener for the Greater Santa Barbara Royals high school hockey team.

The Royals will play their first “home” game in the L.A. Kings High School Hockey League against the West Ranch Wildcats at the Channel Islands Ice Center in Oxnard at 4:45 on Saturday. It’s familiar ice for the Royals as they practice there and several players have played in youth leagues at the facility off the 101 and Ventura Road.

The official “home ice” opener at Ice in Paradise in Goleta is now scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17 against the Kern County Knights at 4:45 p.m.

The Royals won their first game in the inaugural Kings High School Hockey League, beating San Gabriel Valley, 12-0, last Saturday at the Pickwick Ice Arena in Burbank. Check the video highlights of the first week of games in the league. The highlights of the Royals-San Gabriel game start at 2:30.

The Royals are coached by former NHL player Steve Heinze.
