Clinton Hall, Dean Smith and Isaiah Washington all found the end zone twice on Saturday for Cate’s 8-man football team as the Rams dismantled Orcutt Academy, 50-12, in the Condor League opener for both teams.
The No. 6 Rams went on the road and took home a quality win over the No. 4-ranked Spartans, who lost for the first time this season.
“It was a great way to start league play for us. Anytime you can go on the road and knock off a top 5 team, you’re doing something right,” reported Owls assistant coach Dave Soto. “I’m proud of the energy we had for all four quarters. We will continue to improve as we move into the heart of league play.”
Hall struck first, taking a 28-yard scramble to paydirt. The Cate quarterback later had the Rams’ longest scoring play of the game, a 62-yard run in the second half.
The Cate defense shut out Orcutt until the final three minutes. Keller Mochel, Musa Hakim and Ajibola Bodunrin gave Cate an edge at the line of scrimmage while Max Vasquez backed them up with some big plays.
Cate hosts No. 5 Thacher next Saturday.
