In their final match of Alumni Weekend, the Gauchos were defeated by the Pacific Tigers, 9-6.
Senior goalkeeper Chris Whitelegge tallied an impressive 14 saves for today’s match and one steal. Sophomore Shane Hauschild led the Gaucho offense with a hat trick. Derek Shoemaker, Mitch Hamilton, and Samar Alkateb contributed on the other goals.
The Tigers started the game off with a goal in the first quarter, but Mitch Hamilton would quickly tie the game up just fifty seconds later, making the score 1-1. Chris Whitelegge blocked two more attempted shots by the Tigers. However, on the third try the Tigers would score the final goal of the quarter, bringing the score to 2-1.
Just a minute into the second quarter Shane Hauschild scored a no-look goal in the final seconds of the possession, tying the game at 2-2. The Tigers would respond twenty seconds later with a goal, but their next two attempts were denied by Chris Whitelegge. Following three more saves by the Gauchos, the Tigers scored two more goals, bringing the score to 5-2, before the end of the first half.
At the beginning, of the third quarter, Shane Hauschild scored his second goal of the day, breaking the 0-3 scoring streak for the Gauchos. Following a full body save by Chris Whitelegge, the next goal was scored almost five minutes later by Derek Shoemaker leaving the score at 5-4.
About a minute later, Boris Jovanovic drew an exclusion, forcing a 6-on-5 and allowing Shane Hauschild to score a goal to tie up the game.
With a minute left in the third quarter, the Tigers scored another goal. A Pacific ejection would set up a Gaucho 6-on-5, giving Samer Alkateb the opportunity to score the final goal of the game for the Gauchos, and tying up the game at 6-6 heading into the fourth.
Although Chris Whitelegge had three saves in the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Tigers would score three more goals in the second half of the quarter to win the game. The final score was 9-6.
