It only took three sets but Friday’s 25-19, 25-18, 26-24 non-league win over Arroyo Grande wasn’t a cake-walk for the Royals.
San Marcos head coach Erica Downing said her team played its best defense of the season and needed a solid effort to beat the “scrappy” Eagles. Cassidy Drury Pullen was at the center of the defensive effort. Gabi Peoples and Delaney Werner contributed to the strong showing.
As did Chloe Allen, who had a 20-20 double-double with 22 kills and 22 digs. Her night included only three errors on 55 offensive attempts.
San Marcos plays next on Tuesday at Santa Barbara High in one of the biggest matches of the Royals’ season.
