In a tune-up for the upcoming CIF playoffs, Cate took on Channel League school Dos Pueblos and battled through four sets before falling, 25-18, 19-25, 25-23, 25-19, at Sovine Gym.
“This was a good test for us going into playoffs,” Cate coach Greg Novak said. “We were close in all the games but it was clear that the talent and experience on DP prevailed over the Rams.”
Peyton Shelburne led the Rams with 18 kills on .157 hitting.
“DP provided an efficient block and steady defense which proved to challenge our hitters,” Novak said. “We hit .099 as a team and that won’t cut it against a good team like DP.”
Cate, the Frontier League champion and the No. 1 team in CIF Division 4A, closes out the regular season against Carpinteria on Tuesday. The Rams (20-9) are seeking to go 12-0 in league.
