Last time the San Marcos girls tennis team took on Santa Barbara it prevailed 15-3. This time they did again, winning 12-6 at the Dons’ tennis courts in a crosstown rivalry contest on Tuesday.
The Royals were led by the doubles teams of Renee Handley/Sarah Yang and Julia Frohling/Carley McDaniel who swept all of their sets with the team of Renee and Sarah not allowing a single game past them on the day.
Yuka Perera and Kelly Coulson tallied four points for the Royals in the singles department at two apiece, both of their respective losses done at the hands of Cade Sorensen who went 3-0 on the day for Santa Barbara.
“I was very happy how the whole team played,” said coach Fred Hartzman. “We knew SB would play us much tougher then the last match on September 17 when we beat them 15-3. I am happy how focused the girls were today and how aggressive the doubles teams played.”
San Marcos improves to a perfect 6-0 record in league play (10-1 overall) and will host Buena on Thursday in a Channel League matchup. The Dons will return to their own tennis courts on Wednesday where they will face off against a tough Arroyo Grande squad.
