San Marcos finished its regular season with a 16-1 record after Wednesday’s 13-5 decision over Santa Ynez in a non-league game.
While No. 1 singles player Yuka Perera didn’t play, the Royals’ top doubles team of Renee Handley and Sarah Yang won three more sets and finished off an undefeated regular season of 41-0. Kelly Coulson stepped up at No. 1 singles and swept 6-1, 6-1, 6-0.
“I told the girls they all had to step up since we were missing Yuka today. I was very happy how Kelly played at number 1 spot and we got a fantastic effort from our doubles teams,” reported Royals head coach Fred Hartzman.
San Marcos won eight of nine total doubles sets. Josephine Pulver won three sets with two different partners.
The Royals’ next action is Monday at the start of the league individual tournament.
