San Marcos polished off an undefeated Channel League season – the first of its kind in school history – on Thursday by beating Dos Pueblos 11-7.
The Royals’ No. 1 doubles team of seniors Renee Handley and Sarah Yang swept three matches to run their record to 35-0 on the season. No. 1 singles player Yuka Perera turned in another three-set sweep to give the Royals an edge.
The Royals led 4-2 after the first round and needed a clutch victory by Minu Traufetter to keep their two-set advantage heading into the third round. Traufetter’s 6-3 win over Saylor Yoos tipped the momentum onto the Royals’ side of the net.
DP is an excellent team and they put together a really strong lineup in this rematch but I was very proud how my team played,” said Royals head coach Fred Hartzman.
The Royals (12-1, 8-0) play once more this week in a non-league match at Cate on Friday.
