Cate will have a strong presence at the Tri-Valley League Individual Tournament finals after reserving spots in singles and doubles on Tuesday.
Julia Gan will face teammate Jackie Cai in the singles championship match while Cate’s McKenna Madden and Summer Christensen take on defending league champions Sophia Aulicino and Jacey Katch of La Reina in the doubles final. Those matches are to be played at Cate on Thursday at 3 p.m.
Cai, a Cate sophomore, upset last year’s TVL singles runner-up Natalie Greco of La Reina 7-5, 6-1.
“This result was certainly the surprise of the tournament and another big moment in what has been a memorable season for Cate girls’ tennis,” reported Rams head coach Trevor Thorpe.
Gan, a senior, breezed through her semifinal opponent, La Reina’s Tiara Nourishad, 6-1, 6-1.
