Dos Pueblos’ Bella Vigna scored a 36 on Tuesday to lead the Chargers over Buena, 196-284, and clinch a tie for the Channel League title.
Chargers coach Dan Choi said Vigna wasn’t feeling sharp warming up on the range but fought off the discomfort to card a solid round. Julia Forster was one stroke behind with a 37.
“Julia has made so much progress since last year on not only her shot-making ability but her ability to play a smart round of golf and her scores have really reflected that,” noted Choi.
Freshman Gabby Minier was DP’s other sub-40 golfer at 39.
The Chargers were coming off a challenging win over Rio Mesa the day before. Dos Pueblos won 215-281 in the non-league contest which saw two Rio Mesa players fail to complete their rounds because of the extreme heat. Jamie Sharpe and Vigna were DP’s low scorers with matching 41s.
Dos Pueblos improves to 10-1 and 7-0 in league. The Chargers’ final Channel League match of the season is Thursday at La Cumbre Country Club against San Marcos.
