SBCC finished just four shots behind the leaders on Monday, taking third place for the third straight time in the WSC No. 5 women’s golf tournament at Kern River GC in Bakersfield.
Carolin Chang shot 6-over 78 and placed third while Isabella Doub had an 81 for the Vaqueros, who shot 336. Citrus and Canyons tied for first at 332 and Citrus won a playoff to earn its first victory of the year.
Citrus took over the WSC lead at 21-4, followed closely by Canyons (20-5) and the Vaqueros (19-6).
Jamie Lopez of Citrus was the medalist at 76, followed by teammate Lexandra So at 77.
“It was another tough day,” said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. “It was a longer course and a hot day but I’m proud of the way we stuck with it. Hopefully our lineup will get stronger when we get over our injuries and personal problems.
“If we keep going about our business, good things will happen.”
The Vaqueros will compete in WSC No. 6 on Monday at Brookside No. 2 in Pasadena, starting at 11 a.m.
