It will be a showdown of CIF top-5 teams and a battle for sole possession of first place in the Channel Leauge when Santa Barbara High and San Marcos meet in boys water polo on Tuesday at San Marcos.
Santa Barbara goes into the game ranked third in the latest CIF Division 2 poll while San Marcos is No. 5. This is the first meeting of the season between the crosstown rivals.
In girls volleyball, Ventura jumped over San Marcos in the Division 1A poll this week. The Cougars swept the Royals last week and are now ranked fifth; San Marcos is sixth. The teams are tied for first place in the Channel League.
Cate remains in the No. 1 position in Division 4A. The Rams will host Division 4AA fourth-ranked Laguna Blanca for local small-schools volleyball bragging rights on Saturday afternoon.
