Bishop Diego’s powerful running game was too much for Fillmore, as the Cardinals romped to a 49-0 win in the Tri-Valley League football opener on Friday night in Fillmore.
Mike Soracco and Evan Mckeegan each ran for two scores and AV Bennett returned a punt 69 yards for a touchdown, helping the Cardinals improve to 8-0 on the season.
John Harris returned to the lineup and scored on a 25-yard reception and run to put Bishop up 21-0 in the first quarter. Soracco scored the first TD on a 10-yard run and Matt Shotwell followed with 1-yard run.
Soracco made it 28-0 with a 12-yard TD run at 7:08 in the second quarter.
The Bishop defense forced Fillmore to punt on its next possession and Bennett turned on the afterburners on the return for a 35-0 lead before halftime.
The game used a running clock for the second half.
Mckeegan scored his touchdowns runs of 15 and 9 yards. Kicker Jack Luckhurst was 7 for 7 on PATs.
