Dos Pueblos fell behind 17-0 in the first half against Buena and never recovered, losing 24-14 in the Channel League football opener for both teams on Friday night in Ventura.
Bulldogs quarterback Martin Mijares directed three long scoring drives to keep the ball out of DP’s hands. Mijares, wide receiver Mason Beling and running back Juan Gaytan were catalyst for the Buena attack. Beling had 10 receptions for 159 yards; Mijares completed 21 of 25 passes for 254 yards and no interceptions; Gaytan rushed for 98 yards on 19 carries and scored two touchdowns.
Dos Pueblos scored both its touchdowns in the fourth quarter. The first came on an 89-yard pass from Kellen Roberts (323 yards passing) to Marcellous Gossett on fourth-and-long from its own 11 with 10:28 left in the game.
With 1:31 remaining, Blake Erwin caught a 41-yard TD pass from Roberts for DP’s final score.
The Chargers fall to 2-5 overall and 0-1 in league while Buena is 4-2, 1-0.
