Westmont volleyball (6-2) made short work of a trip to The Master’s College to take on two non-conference opponents. The Warriors ran their winning streak to five matches by sweeping both Cal State San Marcos (0-2) and Carroll (Mont.). Westmont has now won 15 sets in a row.
“San Marcos came out strong,” noted Westmont head coach Patti Cook. “Once we figured out their tendencies, we started to take the game away.”
The Warriors claimed a 25-16 victory in the first set, followed by wins of 25-22 and 25-16. Libby Dahlberg posted 12 kills and a .409 attack percentage. Jessica McCann added 10 more kills and a .412 attack percentage while Taylor Beckman had nine kills with just one error.”
“Libby dominated the day,” said Cook, “and was stellar in the middle. Jessica had outstanding offensive play.”
Against Carroll (3-4), Beckman and Dahlberg each contributed 10 kills to lead the Warriors to a 25-22, 25-17, 25-23 sweep.
“Jessica stopped a key Carroll run at the end of the third set,” observed Cook. “Carroll had rallied to take a 23-22 lead when Jessica, an outside hitter, attacked from the right side and drove the ball down the line.
“Courtney Crosby made some incredibly athletic defensive plays throughout the match with Carroll.” continued the coach. “On any other play, those balls would have been down, but she got them up.”
