Jessica McCann produced an offensive explosion in Santa Clarita as #16 Westmont Volleyball (12-4, 5-2 GSAC) swept The Mustangs of The Master’s College (11-8, 4-3) in tonight’s Golden State Athletic Conference match. McCann tallied 16 kills in 25 attempts, posting a .600 attack percentage.
“Our team was on point tonight,” said Westmont head coach Patti Cook. “The only time we gave up a lead was in the first set. We were able to retake the lead and then stay confident and steady all throughout.”
Sarah McGough produced seven kills in 12 attempts without an error to claim a .583 attack percentage.
“Sarah played very well in her hometown,” noted Cook. “She was very strong for us offensively and set up strong blocks for us.
“We blocked very well, which was a big goal of ours,” said Cook. “We went into the match looking for at least five blocks. We worked on blocking a ton in practice on Monday. I’m very happy to see that it paid off.”
The Warriors produced 10 team blocks to set the stage for a strong defensive effort.
“Our defense was very great,” said Cook. “Kami (Troesh) and Taylor (Beckman) were getting a lot of digs. It was really dynamic. I’ll give partial credit to the block for funneling the ball to them.”
Westmont travels to Fullerton on Saturday to take on Hope International (6-6, 3-1) in the final game of the first half of the season.
