Rio Mesa scored on its first two plays from scrimmage and never let up in routing San Marcos, 69-7, in a non-league football game in Oxnard on Friday.
The Spartans, ranked seventh in the CIF Western Division, scored on their first two plays from scrimmage — the first a 22-yard pass from Eddie Guerrero completed a 22-yard pass to Stevie Houston for the Spartans’ first score. When they got the ball back, Josiah King broke off a 40-yard run.
Guerrero connected with Houston again on a 14-yard score for a 21-0 lead with five minutes left in the first quarter.
It was 41-0 midway through the second quarter.
“Mistakes in all three phases of the game,” said San Marcos coach Anthony Linebaugh.
The coach praised the courageous effort of quarterback D’shaun Vines.
