A beautifully struck free kick by Fresno Pacific’s Jorge Chedraui lifted the Sunbirds to a 3-2 nonconference win over Westmont on Saturday night in Fresno.
From just outside the penalty area, Chedraui bent his shot inside the near post and past a diving Westmont goalkeeper Josh Glover in the 58th minute.
The Sunbirds defended for the remainder of the game as they were playing down a player. Midfielder Benjamin Cowdrill received a red card in the 39th minute.
Westmont took a 2-1 into halftime. Matthew Lariviere ran on to a through ball from Tanner Wolf and scored in the 13th minute for a 1-0 lead.
Fresno Pacific tied the score on a free kick in the 33rd minute.
But Westmont responded four minutes later when Asher Booth pounced on a turnover in the back and fired a shot into the net for an unassisted goal.
Fresno Pacific scored the equalizer in the 54th minute on a goal by Martin Kams.
The loss drops Westmont to 3-2-1 on the season. Fresno Pacific, a former GSAC and NAIA rival of the Warriors, is 3-1-1.
