MSoc: Warriors come from behind for GSAC triumph

Two second-half goals lifted Westmont Men’s Soccer (4-3-2, 1-1 GSAC) to a 2-1 Golden State Athletic Conference win over Hope International on Saturday afternoon at Thorrington Feld. The Warriors fell in a 1-0 hole in the final minute of the first half after giving up an own goal, but rallied after the intermission to snatch the victory.

The equalizer came in the 77th minute, the result of Tanner Wolf’s second goal of the season. Asher Booth delivered a ball from the left side to the center of the field where Wolf was charging for the goal. Wolf let the ball bounce once, then produced a strike that found the back of the net.

The game winner came as the result of a penalty kick in the 83rd minute. Wilton Quintero was taken down inside the box and drew a foul against the Royals. For the fifth time this season, Quintero took the PK and for the fifth time this season, scored.

In other Golden State Athletic Conference action, #8 Vanguard posted a 2-0 win over William Jessup while Biola won 2-0 over San Diego Christian. Menlo rolled to a 4-0 win over Arizona Christian.

As a result of today’s action, Westmont finds itself in a three-way tie for fourth place with San Diego Christian and Arizona Christian. The Warriors are a single point behind Menlo and Biola (three points for a win, one for a tie), who are both 1-0-1 in conference play, and three points behind Vanguard at 2-0.

On Tuesday, the Warriors will travel to La Mirada for a 7:00 p.m. game against the Eagles of Biola.
