Oxnard scored in the second minute on Friday afternoon and made it stand up for a 1-0 men’s soccer victory over visiting SBCC.
It was the sixth straight win and fourth consecutive shutout for the two-time defending WSC champion Condors (6-1-1, 4-0-0). The Vaqueros (5-2-1, 1-1-1) outshot the home team 12-5 and had a penalty kick in the 65th minute when Nicolas Genthon was pulled down in the box. Carlos Archila Calderon’s PK was stopped by the keeper.
Oxnard is 27-0-5 in its last 32 conference games.
“We didn’t deal with a ball driven in deep in the opening minutes,” said coach John Sisterson. “We didn’t do a good job of switching. Then we had three good chances in the first half that we didn’t convert.
“We lost a game that we should have won. We just need to put the ball in the back of the net.”
Santa Barbara will battle the Glendale Vaqueros on the road on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
