Lompoc erupted for three touchdowns in less than a minute in the first quarter against an injury-riddled Dos Pueblos team and rolled to a 56-6 non-league win at Huyck Stadium on Friday night.
The Chargers learned earlier in the day that standout wide receiver Josh Flora would miss the rest of the season with an injury. The team had already lost returning all-league defensive end and tight end Austen Pearce to a broken leg suffered in the second game against Cabrillo.
In Friday’s game, quarterback Kellen Roberts was taken out late in the second quarter after taking a big hit.
Lompoc’s Toa Taua got the Braves going with an interception of a screen pass that he returned 67 yards for a touchdown. On DP’s next possession, Taua deflected a Roberts pass and Ruben Cortez caught it. On the first play from scrimmage Lompoc quarterback Torey Sims ran 14 yards for a touchdown.
The Chargers fumbled the next time they got the ball and Lompoc’s Chris Green broke off a 41-yard run for the third TD inside one minute.
Lompoc led 42-0 at halftime. Dos Pueblos scored in the fourth quarter.
The Chargers (1-4) return home next Friday to play Carpinteria.
