Cate came out firing in its Frontier League opener on Thursday, channeling that energy into a 25-10, 25-21, 25-20 sweep of Thacher.
“The team was pumped upon returning from their Outings Week,” reported Rams head coach Greg Novak. “We are still trying to figure things out and I think the nerves were upon us for our first league match at home.”
Cate is the defending CIF-ss champion in Division 4A.
“We played steady in the first set but had passing and serving problems in the second,” Novak explained. “Being down 9-15 in the second set I was impressed by the way the team was able to focus and come back.”
Cate’s attack was spread out. Delaney Mayfield led the team with eight kills, Peyton Shelburne added seven, while Hannah Bowlin and Hailey Panzer both had four kills.
Cate travels to San Diego for a weekend tournament called the Firebird Classic.
