The all-around play of Summer Soto led the Bishop Diego girls volleyball team to the championship of the Santa Paula Tournament on Saturday.
The Cardinals defeated Tri-Valley League rival St. Bonaventure in the one-game final, 25-23.
“The glass slipper hasn’t broken yet,” gushed Bishop Diego coach John Sener, whose Cardinals last week won the silver division title at the Laguna Blanca Tournament.
Soto made plays all over the court on Saturday. She was named the tournament MVP.
“Summer Soto was just that. Her play never ceases to amaze me. At times I think there are two Summers on the court,” said Sener.
Celeste Cardenas and Evie Coronado of Bishop were all tournament selections, and freshman Talia Medel played well, said Senor.
“We are young and learning every time we take the court,” he said.
The Cardinals play Carpinteria on Tuesday.
