Carpinteria’s girls tennis team easily defeated Oxnard, 16-2, on Thursday for its first win of the season. It was a good feeling after the Warriors dropped the first five matches of the season.
“A great win for our spirits as we were starting to drop our heads a bit,” admitted Warriors head coach Charles Bryant. “Granted we have been playing some very strong competition in most of those losses. Today, however, we played relaxed and tried to really focus on what we have been practicing lately–just being more aggressive at the net, getting our first serves in and showing much more patience.”
Madison Cleek and Alondra Costilla swept three sets in singles play while the doubles team Athena Cuellar and Maria Zamora claimed three more. Jessica Lord captured three points for the Warriors, teaming with starter Daryanna Lancet for two wins and Hali Schwasnick in another.
